Best Freeware for Your Macintosh
Web
- Firefox
This is a web browser. Safari is good, but Firefox lets you install the Google Tool Bar which has a very useful "mouse over" dictionary function for people reading English as a second langauge.
- Mozilla
Not only a web browser, but you can also compose web pages, do email and other things.
- SiteSucker
Automatically downloads web sites to make local copies. (There is also a MacOS 9 version available.)
- Lemon
A "classic" app (MacOS 8.5 or newer), but still very, very useful for doing multiple downloads.
It has many features not found in similar MacOS X software.
- DownloadComment
Puts the source URL of the file into the saved file's Finder comments when downloaded by Safari, so you can always find out where you downloaded something from. (Many earlier browsers had this feature, but it was omitted from Safari.)
Creating Web Pages
- PhotoSite TimeSaviour
This app will take any old folder (or folders. or folder full of folders) full of pictures and videos, and turn it into a website with thumbnails, image descriptions and much more.
